We just got back from Nanyuki up near Mt. Kenya. We had our only night of relaxation at The Ark, a safari experience. It is a resort out in the middle of Aberdare National Park. The people don't leave the Ark, but the animals come to us! In the photos below: this giraffe was posing for the perfect photo. Jennifer and I relaxed on the deck with Kenyan chai tea and actually had time to sit and chat during the evening. The view out my window - awesome! And part of the large herd of elephants that came by to welcome us when we arrived!

Early the next morning we hit the ground running the next morning for our final workshop. We were teaching for a women's group and as we arrived, 20-30 women lined the road singing and dancing to welcome us. It was the most incredible welcome I've ever received.
Kenyans have tea as part of the morning break - black tea with hot milk and sugar. They even made heart shaped cakes for us - they were so delicious and cute!
Rachael translating for me and then for Jennifer.

The workshop was outside under the trees and they were so hungry to hear what we had to say. They live in great poverty and started out with lots of complaints, but after the workshop, they had a new perspective.
Part of our training is an exercise to get them thinking about the local problems they face and local solutions to these problems. As they start brainstorming, they see that they can tackle some of these giant problems with their own minds, hearts and resources they didn't even realize they had. We get them to think about the skills, abilities and gifts within each individual as well as the resources within their community. Here is a photo of the baskets they make and the list of resources they came up with.

One of the sweetest quotes at the end of the day
"Today, we think we are the richest in the land because of how our minds have been expanded."
The chairwoman of the women's group and her husband hosted the workshop. At the end of the day we were told that they paid us the highest honor possible. They slaughtered a goat to roast for us. Is that totally cool or what??? I wonder if it was one of the goats in my photo...

Goats, the caretaker and a hut on the land where we held the workshop. And Jennifer with her adorable little guy!
